This is an imported Pentair Hydromatic submersible sewage pump, model S8F4000M4-4, from the Hydromatic S8F solids-handling series. It has a 40 HP (approx. 30 kW) motor rated 460 V, 3 phase, 60 Hz, 1750 RPM, and was assembled in the USA. It is supplied by Standard Machinery in Imported, Refurbished & Tested condition.

Hydromatic solids-handling pumps are used in sewage lift stations and wastewater transfer, where the pump must move raw sewage containing solids. This unit has a heavy cast iron volute with a large 8 inch flanged discharge, a seal leak probe and a motor thermostat for protection.

Voltage & Power Note

This pump is rated 460 V, 60 Hz. It is a direct match for 460 V or 440 V, 60 Hz supplies, used in the USA, on ships and in several export markets.

On an Indian 415 V, 50 Hz supply:

  • Speed drops about 17%, to roughly 1460 RPM
  • By the pump affinity laws, head drops to about 69% and flow to about 83% of the 60 Hz values
  • 415 V at 50 Hz gives the motor slightly higher magnetising flux than its rating, so running current and temperature should be checked on test

For full rated performance, the pump can be run through a VFD set to 60 Hz output. Use a soft starter or suitable reduced-voltage starter for a 40 HP motor. The nameplate states that the motor thermostat must be connected to a certified temperature controller, and the seal leak probe should be wired to a seal-fail relay in the control panel.
