2 HP Electric Wire Rope Winch – 1.47 kW, 440 V 60 Hz, Gear Ratio 1:41
This imported electric wire rope winch is a compact, ready-mounted unit. A 1.47 kW (2 HP) three phase motor drives a right-angle reduction gearbox (ratio 1:41), which turns a grooved, flanged rope drum. The drum is supported by an outboard bearing pedestal, and everything is bolted to a heavy steel base plate. It is supplied by Standard Machinery in Imported, Refurbished & Tested condition.
The motor is rated for ED 25% (intermittent duty), the typical duty rating for winch and hoist drives where the motor runs in short cycles with rest periods in between.

Voltage & Power Note
This winch motor is rated 440 V, 60 Hz. It is a direct match for 440 V 60 Hz supplies, including many ship and marine power systems and some export markets.
On a 50 Hz supply, such as standard Indian 415 V 50 Hz power:
- Motor speed and drum speed will be about 17% lower (approx. 1000 RPM motor speed).
- Available output power reduces roughly in proportion to speed, to about 1.2 kW.
- The voltage that matches this motor's rating at 50 Hz is about 367 V. On 415 V 50 Hz the motor runs with higher magnetising current and may run warmer.
For Indian 50 Hz use, we recommend running the winch through a VFD set to 60 Hz output, or checking running current on test and keeping within the ED 25% duty cycle. Use a forward/reverse starter with an overload relay set to the 4.0 A rated current, and an emergency stop.
Safety Note
Before any lifting or pulling use, the winch's line pull / safe working load (SWL), brake and wire rope must be inspected, load-tested and certified by a competent person as per local regulations.
- Fit new wire rope of the correct size and grade for the drum grooves and the working load
- Keep the minimum dead turns of rope on the drum at all times
- Confirm the holding/braking arrangement holds the full load before putting the winch into service
- Respect the ED 25% duty rating; continuous running can overheat the motor
- Bolt the base plate to a rigid foundation or deck
- Not for man-riding or lifting persons, and not certified for explosive or flammable atmospheres
Maintenance Tips
- Check gearbox oil level and change oil at regular intervals
- Grease the drum bearing in the outboard pedestal
- Inspect the wire rope for broken wires, kinks, corrosion and crushing
- Check motor running current against the 4.0 A nameplate rating
- Keep the terminal box and cable glands sealed against water and dust
- In marine use, wash off salt deposits and touch up paint to prevent corrosion
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the motor ratings of this winch?
The nameplate shows 1.47 kW (about 2 HP), 440 V three phase, 60 Hz, 4.0 A, 1200 RPM and ED 25% duty, with a gear ratio of 1:41.
Can I run this 60 Hz winch on Indian 50 Hz supply?
Yes, but it will run about 17% slower and the motor may run warmer on 415 V 50 Hz. For best results, use a VFD set to 60 Hz output, or monitor running current and keep within the ED 25% duty cycle.
What does ED 25% mean?
ED 25% is an intermittent duty rating. Over a typical 10-minute cycle, the motor can run under load for about 2.5 minutes and needs the rest of the time to cool. It is the usual rating for winch and hoist motors.
What is the drum speed?
Based on the 1200 RPM motor speed and 1:41 gear ratio, the drum turns at about 29 RPM on 60 Hz and about 24 RPM on 50 Hz. Rope speed depends on drum diameter and the number of rope layers.
Can this winch be used for lifting?
Only after its SWL, brake and wire rope are inspected, load-tested and certified by a competent person. It must never be used for lifting persons.
Do you export?
